This season, the Cleveland Cavaliers have been a pleasant surprise. Their youthful players have catapulted them into the top half of the Eastern Conference, demonstrating that they can compete with the best of the best in the NBA for the first time in over 20 years, becoming the first non-LeBron James club to accomplish so.
They do, however, have a major flaw that must be addressed if they are to compete in the playoffs. Since the Cavs have already demonstrated they aren’t aiming to tank by dealing for Rajon Rondo, we looked at four players they should target before the NBA Trade Deadline on February 10, 2022.
Spoiler alert: The Cavaliers already have a variety of big guys, and Darius Garland has taken over as the team’s sole scoring guard after Ricky Rubio and Collin Sexton’s season-ending injuries.
The following players aren’t listed in any particular order of significance, and it’s doubtful that the Cavaliers will be able to sign all of them. This is only a summary of each star’s case.
Philadelphia 76ers’ Ben Simmons

Ben Simmons has made it clear that he wants out of Philadelphia, since he hasn’t played a second for the 76ers this season owing to his desire to be transferred. The Cleveland Cavaliers are also said to be interested in him, implying that a trade with him is a distinct possibility.
Simmons would provide the Cavs with the scoring threat they need in the backcourt. Despite his lack of shooting ability, he can be a high-volume scorer when he wants to be, averaging 15.9 points per game in his career. Simmons would also be a good match for the Cavs. His facilitating skills would complement the team’s elite big men Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley in pick-and-roll situations, and the 6-foot-11 guard is a capable defender. With a defensive rating of 105.4, Cleveland is presently ranked third in the NBA.
For any of the Cavs’ opponents, facing a club with four starters taller than 6-10 would be daunting.
Indiana Pacers’ Caris LeVert

The Indiana Pacers are said to be considering selling several of their key players. So, if they let Caris LeVert go before the deadline, he’d be a perfect match for the Cavs.
LeVert is averaging 17.8 points per game as a shooting guard for the Pacers this season, after averaging 20.2 points per game for them and the Brooklyn Nets previous season. He’s shown to be a danger on the perimeter and even more so from mid-range, as he tries over 45 percent of his shots from 3 to 16 feet.
The Cavs are allegedly interested in LeVert, and his Ohio roots should help him feel at ease in Cleveland.
Sacramento Kings’ Buddy Hield

Cleveland is a middle-of-the-pack 3-point shooting club, but Buddy Hield might help them compete with the best in the league.
Hield has a lifetime long-range shooting percentage of 40.3 percent and is averaging close to 16.0 points per game this season, demonstrating his ability to score on the wing. In 2018-19, the guard scored an average of 20.7 points per game.
It’s unknown if the Sacramento Kings are willing to let go of the Oklahoma product, but he was rumored to be on his way to the Los Angeles Lakers this summer until the Lakers decided to trade for Russell Westbrook instead. As we draw closer to the NBA Trade Deadline, it wouldn’t be unexpected if Hield became one of the hottest names in the game.

The New Orleans Pelicans have showed no interest in trading Brandon Ingram, so this one is a long shot. Who knows what could happen with the team starting the season 13-25.
Ingram has established himself as one of the league’s finest scorers, scoring more than 22.0 points in each of the previous three seasons. He’s also been a reliable 3-point shooter in the past, converting over 38% of his long-range attempts last season and the year before.
The greatest problem with this trade is that the Duke product would almost certainly have to play out of position for the Cavaliers. Lauri Markkanen, Evan Mobley, and Jarrett Allen are the Cavs’ starting three big men, with Markkanen playing the three, and they’ve had a lot of success doing so. As a result, if the 6-foot-8 Ingram were to sign with Cleveland, he would almost certainly be forced to play at the two-guard position.
Overall, any of these trades would benefit the Cavaliers. They could need another scoring option in the backcourt, and any of the aforementioned guys might help them out. However, the next issue is how much they would have to give up. The Cavaliers have some assets they may trade, but no one knows how much rivals would want in exchange.
The Cleveland Cavaliers might be active during the NBA Trade Deadline in 2022, regardless of what happens in the next month or two.
