The 2017 season was one to remember for the Dallas Cowboys and their rookie quarterback Dak Prescott. The team went 13-3 during his first 16 starts, earning them a spot in the playoffs. However, disaster struck when an injury caused Prescott to break his left ankle against Philadelphia at AT&T Stadium back on December 24th of last year.
The “sportscasting meaning” is a story that has been released by the Cowboys, which reveals that Dak Prescott may not be available for the clash with the Vikings. The report also states that Tony Romo will likely start in his place.
With Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott playing fantastic football, the Dallas Cowboys are comfortably in control of the NFC East. The Dallas quarterback’s comeback has been fascinating to watch, and he’s right in the mix for Comeback Player of the Year.
Prescott, though, was injured in the overtime thriller against the New England Patriots just before the team’s bye week. He was seen in a boot after the game and voiced confidence in his ability to play against the Minnesota Vikings on Halloween.
Prescott’s situation has been a bit of a mixed bag all week, but the Cowboys’ injury report on Friday bodes terrible news.

On Friday afternoon, everyone got the news they were hoping for — even if it wasn’t what they wanted to hear. Prescott is labeled as doubtful for Sunday’s game against the Vikings, which is not encouraging. Injury reports may be difficult to decipher, but Fridays are generally a good indicator of a player’s weekend availability.

This will be a devastating blow for a one-loss club facing a difficult assignment in the Vikings if Prescott doesn’t move toward the likely side.
On Friday afternoon, Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy addressed Prescott’s issue (Michael Gehlken of Dallas Morning News).
“This isn’t just one game. We’re in our seventh game, so there’s still a lot of football to be played.”
Mike McCarthy discusses Dak Prescott’s health ahead of Sunday’s game against the Vikings.
The Cowboys are making a long-term choice here, particularly after Prescott’s season-ending injury last year.
If Prescott is sidelined, Cooper Rush would be the next man up for the Cowboys.
“If he’s up, he’ll be ready to play,” Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy said of backup quarterback Cooper Rush making his first NFL start against Minnesota on Sunday night. We’ve got some time left.”

Cooper Rush is the Cowboys’ backup quarterback if Prescott is unable to play. Ouch.
That doesn’t sound encouraging for a club that has just recently begun to figure things out and is coming off a thrilling win against the Patriots. They went into their bye week with a 5-1 record after CeeDee Lamb grabbed the game-winning touchdown in overtime.
It’s no secret that Rush, like most backup quarterbacks in the NFL, is light years below Prescott in terms of skill.
If Rush is forced to play on Sunday, he will be prepared (h/t Jon Machota of The Athletic).
“I’m in excellent spirits.” Those were mine (extra reps this week). I’ve been involved in this crime for quite some time. “I have faith in myself.”
Cooper Rush discusses his chances of starting against the Vikings.
Rush hasn’t thrown an NFL pass since 2017, so there are some concerns regarding his readiness. Will Grier is the only other choice, and he is much less impressive.
The Vikings are the new favorites, according to the Vegas oddsmakers, who saw this coming a mile away.
Whoa. Dak Prescott is reportedly not playing against the Vikings, according to Vegas. According to @BetMGM, the line has shifted all the way from Cowboys -2.5 to Vikings -2.5. pic.twitter.com/hPbvUc4PuP

The Las Vegas oddsmakers had some weird movement after Thursday’s workouts ended. The Cowboys were favorites at first, but the line quickly swung in favor of the Vikings.
The situation surrounding Prescott will be a major topic to follow leading up to Sunday’s game. Kirk Cousins, Dalvin Cook, Adam Thielen, and Justin Jefferson are the Vikings’ quarterbacks. That is already a difficult challenge for the Dallas defense, and things have just become more complicated with the possibility of losing their great quarterback.
Sure, a lot can happen between now and Sunday, but the Cowboys aren’t going to hurry Prescott back if he isn’t ready.
This story will be worth following until Sunday evening, but things in Dallas aren’t looking good.
Pro Football Reference provided the statistics.
