‘I’d Just Like to See Some More Old-School Guys’

The NBA is in the midst of a generational shift. The old guard, with players like Kobe Bryant and Tim Duncan, are retiring or nearing retirement age.

The old school you’re my boy blue gif is a meme that has been around for years. It shows an old-school guy with his arms raised in victory next to the words, I’d just like to see some more old-school guys.

For almost a decade, Minnesota Vikings star Jared Allen terrorized NFL quarterbacks as one of the best sack specialists in football history. The 6-foot-6, 270-pound pass-rusher, who is now retired, is in his second year of Pro Football Hall of Fame eligibility. While he still enjoys football and everything it has given him, he no longer watches many NFL games for a variety of reasons, including the fact that there aren’t many people he deems “old school” anymore.

Jared Allen, a defensive end, retired from the NFL in 2015, making him eligible for induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2021. The sack artist, who was selected in the fourth round out of Idaho State by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2004, didn’t make it on his first vote, but is a finalist again for 2022.

During his 12-year NFL career, Allen was a member of four teams: the Kansas City Chiefs, Minnesota Vikings, Chicago Bears, and Carolina Panthers. Allen was a five-time Pro Bowl player and four-time All-Pro with the Chiefs and Vikings. In eight separate seasons, the pass rusher racked up double-digit sack totals, including leading the NFL in sacks in 2007 (15.5) and 2011 (22.0).

With 136.0 sacks, 171 tackles for a loss, 19 fumble recoveries, four safeties, and six interceptions, the California native ended his career with 136.0 sacks, 171 tackles for a loss, 19 fumble recoveries, four safeties, and six interceptions. Allen’s mullet hairstyle, handlebar mustache, and calf-roping sack dance are lasting memories from his illustrious career, particularly with Minnesota.

Allen did win a Super Bowl with the Panthers in his last season, but he only appeared in seven postseason games throughout his 12-year career. His individual talent, as well as the fact that he was the league’s most feared pass rusher for six years, should earn him a spot in the Hall of Fame.

He is now ranked 12th all-time in the NFL in terms of sacks. Every other qualified player has already arrived in Canton, Ohio.

This week, Jared Allen stopped by the Pat McAfee Show 2.0 to talk with the guys. During his visit, he discussed his retirement and his post-retirement connection with football.

While he will always love football, the passionate outdoorsman told McAfee and co-host A.J. Hawk that now that he is no longer playing, the NFL has lost some of its luster for him.

Allen said, “I actually don’t watch [the NFL] these days.” “It’s not the same game we used to play.”

McAfee stepped in and questioned Allen whether he now “hates” football, and if not being inducted into the Hall of Fame this offseason had a role in that. Allen’s response was:

No, the Hall of Fame is fantastic. Football is one of my favorite sports. Football, especially high school and college football, is incredible. To be honest, I believe pro football has gone so far away from being — no, I shouldn’t say that — fantastic, right? However, if you invest too much money into anything, you have to deal with garbage, politics, and everything else. It’s still amazing at its heart. Just a few more old-school men, please.

On the NFL, Jared Allen

Allen went on to add that he still enjoys watching “old school” players, as well as certain new players who play that style. He also said that, after last season’s Super Bowl victory, he had become a huge Tom Brady admirer.

Jared Allen may be part of a unique class if he is inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2022.

On September 22, the institution released its list of finalists for 2022, and there are a number of fantastic players on the list.

The list of first-time nominees is jam-packed with talent and impressive numbers. Devin Hester is the greatest kick returner of all time, while Steve Smith, Andre Johnson, and Anquan Boldin are all multi-Pro Bowl wide outs.

Antonio Cromartie, defensive back, and defensive lineman Vince Wilfork and Robert Mathis are on the defensive side of the ball. Demarcus Ware, one of the two players ahead of Allen on the all-time sack record who isn’t in the Hall of Fame, is also on the list (138.5 sacks).

Along with Allen, there are still a number of worthy players on the waiting list. To mention a few, there’s offensive tackle Tony Boselli, running back Hershel Walker, wide receiver Reggie Wayne, defensive lineman Richard Seymour, linebacker Zach Thomas, and special teams ace Steve Tasker.

The Class of 2022 will be announced by the NFL after the conclusion of the 2021 season, and they will be inducted in August of 2022.

Pro Football Reference provided all stats.

Jaylen Twyman, a sixth-round pick of the Minnesota Vikings, was shot four times in June, reported to training camp in July, and then was waived by the team.

The you’re my boy blue quote is a quotation from the film The Breakfast Club. This quote is used in the movie to describe how people feel about someone they just met.
