Michael Jordan had a secret strategy to escape the crowds in Chicago. He would go into the locker room, put on his Bulls jersey, and then leave for practice. This allowed him to avoid the masses of people who wanted to see him play basketball.

Michael Jordan was a great basketball player. He had a secret strategy to escape the crowds in Chicago.

Outside of his close group, Michael Jordan struggles to maintain obscurity. His fame extends beyond athletics, since he is still widely regarded as the best NBA player of all time. Jordan has long been a recognized face across the globe because to his lengthy association as a Nike pitchman. Even yet, everyone wishes for some alone time. It’s normal to want to go unnoticed from time to time, whether you’re hanging out quietly with pals or just stepping off the grid and going for a burger.

Jordan carefully worked the angles to guarantee some privacy while he was the talk of the town in Chicago in the 1980s and 1990s. This often necessitated the age-old habit of enlisting the assistance of his pals.

Michael Jordan never had to cope with the heavy weight of continuous criticism online, despite all of the attention he received throughout his famous NBA career.

In Jordan’s day, there was no such thing as social media. While the six-time NBA MVP struggled to find a quiet spot to be alone, his phone wasn’t continually flooded with pictures of him dining, shopping, or walking the dog.

Being a celebrity, on the other hand, is difficult. A large metropolis may give near-complete privacy to an average individual, but it just adds to the number of eyes watching a prominent figure’s every action.

Jordan learnt to be inventive when he needed to get away from the limelight.

Jordan’s collaborators included former White Sox pitcher Ozzie Guillen.

Ozzie Guillen is also a Chicago institution, although not on the same level as Michael Jordan (because, hey, who is?). Jordan discussed how he managed to stay out of the limelight on a recent edition of the La Vida Baseball podcast he cohosts with sones Ozzie Guillen Jr. and Oney Guillen, the World Series-winning former manager of the White Sox.

Guillen said that swapping vehicles with teammates or friends was one of his go-to actions. He recalled what occurred one night when he drove Jordan’s vehicle to a Colombian restaurant.

“Oh, come on!” said someone outside the eatery. “You’re not Michael Jordan,” says the narrator.

Guillen was puzzled until he saw the “JUMPMAN23” license plates on the car, which revealed the riddle.

While Jordan was in Chicago in 1994, Guillen used the switch-a-roo technique on him. Both played for the White Sox that summer. On the South Side, Guillen was the starting shortstop. Jordan was an ambitious talent (of sorts) in the Southern League’s Double-A Birmingham.

Michael Jordan may have been better off without the vanity plates.

Guillen got a taste of what it was like to drive around Chicago with Michael Jordan. On the other hand, if you’re looking for some privacy, maybe putting your name on your license plate isn’t the best option.

It reminds me of individuals who brag about their illegal activities on social media. The officials are taken aback when they come knocking on the door.

Those criminal masterminds were not exposed by Mark Zuckerberg. Michael Jordan had no one to blame for people being able to figure out who he was based on the vehicle he drove.

Perhaps “IMNOTMJ” was a better choice.

Michael Jordan was tempted to call the Bulls during his first retirement to offer assistance, but he never did: ‘Because of the baseball thing, I was always busy.’
