Despite his success, Michael Jordan needed one crucial help from a doctor. That help was a diet plan created by Dr. Burt Berkson to combat the powerhouses of North America and Europe in the 1980s – a 400-calorie meal between 8am and 4pm with plenty of protein, carbs, healthy fats and vitamins. The results were astounding: he went on to dominate basketball for nearly two decades before retiring at age 45.,

Jordan is widely regarded as one of the best basketball players of all time. Jordan was selected third overall in the first round of the 1984 NBA Draft by the Chicago Bulls after graduating from the University of North Carolina. The talented shooting guard would go on to play for the Bulls for 13 seasons, according to Basketball-Reference.

Jordan earned six NBA titles and six NBA Finals MVP honors during his career with the Bulls. During his 13 seasons in Chicago, he also won the NBA MVP award five times. When it comes to Jordan’s illustrious career, the stats speak for themselves.

Jordan was blessed with natural ability and a strong work ethic throughout his career. However, the NBA legend attributes some of his success to his eating habits.

Tim Grover served as Jordan’s personal trainer when Jordan and the Bulls dominated the NBA in the 1990s. Grover is credited with keeping the GOAT’s nutrition in control throughout his NBA reign, according to Men’s Health.

Grover, it turned out, had Jordan eat five to six little meals every day. Ultimately, each meal was designed to provide Jordan with food that was 70 percent carbohydrates, 20 percent fat, and 10 percent protein. Jordan’s eating regimen, according to Grover, was meant to maintain his blood sugar level steady. It also increased his metabolism, allowing him to get the nutrition he required without gaining weight.

Jordan found this kind of dieting to be simple. “Michael is not a huge eater,” Grover said of this meal plan to the newspaper. He only eats when he’s hungry, and only when he’s satisfied, not stuffed.”

Jordan’s unique pregame meal paved the way for him to become a legend.

On training days, Jordan followed Grover’s nutrition regimen, but insiders claim MJ veered off the rails with pregame meals. While common knowledge said that players should eat a lot of carbohydrates before spending a lot of energy on the court, Jordan never appeared to agree. Jordan felt bloated after eating rice- and pasta-based pregame meals, according to Grover. Within a few hours of eating, he lacked the energy to function at his best.

Finally, Grover and Jordan learned that eating a steak before the game helped the Bulls star perform better. Despite the fact that this strategy worked for MJ, Grover warns that this before practice is not for everyone.

Grover stated during his interview:

“Now, don’t get me wrong: I’m not suggesting you eat steak before a game. I’m not here to give you dietary advise. I’m telling you, based on Michael’s body chemistry and schedule, his playing minutes, and the huge amount of energy he used on the court, we had to develop a new strategy for him. The steak slowed down the digestion of everything else he was consuming — carbs, veggies, and so on — and kept his blood sugar stable, allowing him to play the whole game with greater energy.”

While the GOAT was successful with this pregame routine, it isn’t appropriate for many athletes.
